The Simpsons 101 Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire (Christmas Special) Times Watched: 1625032 Comments: 193 Rating:
It's a not-so-merry Christmas for the Simpsons, when Mr. Burns decides to cut the Christmas bonuses and Marge had to spend the Christmas savings to erase a tattoo Bart thought would make a great Christmas present. In order to hide the fact that he did not get the bonus, Homer takes a second job as a store Santa. NOTES: Patty, Selma, Ned and Todd Flanders, Mr. Burns, Smithers, and Grampa Simpson are introduced (although Smithers has a voice-only part). This episode is on the Christmas with the Simpsons DVD (as well as on the Season 1 DVD set).

Well, January 9th 1998 was a Friday. The newest episode of the simpsons to air was on January 4th, "All Singing, All Dancing" It may have been a rerun of that episode. If your mom stayed in the hospital a few more days, she might have been watching "Bart Carny" which premiered on the 11th.
Or it might have been a completely different episode if it was a syndicated re-run. Hope this helped

Mr. Burn's voice is different because he's voiced by a different actor in this episode, Chris Collins. He did the voice of Starscream and Cobra Commander and stuff. He left after the first season... Or something like that.
